We are so excited to report that Vilakazi will appear on Fox 25 this week! Board member Lauren Dennison will appear with Kelli Dupuy, the reigning champion of our rock-paper-scissors tournament. This was Kelli before dominating at our last tournament: This should be great! We are so greatful to anchor Liz Dueweke for having us! We hope this will help get the word out about our second rock-paper-scissors tournament, which is Friday evening, by the way.

Vilakazi will once again have a booth out at the annual Plaza Festival! We had so much fun last year that we're back for more! We'll have shirts for sale and show photos and video of what we've accomplished. We hope you'll stop by!
Also, we're looking for some volunteers. You know you want to help! You can help sell shirts and man the booth. We have four 2-hour shifts: 12-2 p.m., 2-4 p.m., 4-6 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. If you're intersted, just email Carrie at [email protected]. We hope you'll join us! We have an opening on our board, and we're accepting applications. After nearly two years of helping Vilakazi, Chad Previch has stepped down to have more personal time. We appreciate all the work he did for us, and he will be missed!
The board application process is simple. All you have to do is fill out the application form and submit it with your resume to [email protected]. You can download the application right there on your right. -------------> The deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, May 27. If you have any questions, just email Leigh. If you have applied before, your application will be considered with the new ones. If you'd like to send an updated resume, that's fine, too. To share a little bit about our board ... We are a working board. There are no financial requirements to serve, but we enjoy 100 percent board participation. What we need the most from our board members is a willingness to help furthur the Vilakazi cause of helping South African children. We're excited to have a new volunteer join our board! The Vilakazi Foundation is having a contest! We've been brainstorming ideas for our tagline, and we need some help from you. Here are some examples of taglines:
Allstate: You're in Good Hands. GE: Imagination at Work. Target: Expect More. Pay Less. We'd like to tie in Oklahoma and South Africa, but don't limit yourself. Post your ideas as comments under this update or on our Facebook page. The top choices, decided by the board, will win South African candy. You have until our next meeting, which is Dec. 1. Ready? GO! Thank you so much to all of our wonderful volutneers who braved the heat of the 2010 Plaza District Festival! Our volunteers report the the festival was a lot of fun. They were able to hand out candy and talk to people about Vilakazi's mission and the upcoming Playground Throw Down rock-paper-scissors tournament. We were able to sign up some new folks to join our email newsletter. (Interested in joining? Sign up here.)
Thanks again to our fantastic volunteers! Your time means the world to us! We're looking for volunteers to hand out candy and flyers for Vilakazi at a booth we have at the Plaza District Festival tomorrow. We only need four more volunteers. The open shifts are from 12 to 2 p.m., 6 to 8 p.m. and 8 to 10 p.m. All we're doing is handing out candy and asking people to join our email list. We could really use some help!
Why would it be amazing to volunteer? 1. Every volunteer gets TWO free entries into our rock-paper-scissors tournament in December! 2. You get to hang out at the Plaza Festival. 3. You get to eat some of the free candy we're giving away. If you can help, just call Leigh at (405) 255-1281 to sign up. It will be super fun! Thanks for all your support! |
